WANTED: LOCAL PEOPLE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN ASSISTING COMMUNITIES

Opportunities

The Community Futures Programme will select a number of people to assist as Local Community Support Volunteers. The focus will be to support communities participating in the programme to carry out the community consultation associated with the preparation of Community Action Plans. The Support Volunteers will be responsible to the County Community Forum, and will be managed on behalf of the Forum by the Community Futures Programme Committee. Their role in their allocated community will be to:

  • Carry out a household survey
  • Compile a local community profile
  • Organise discussions and meetings with representatives of different parts of the community
  • Help organise community meetings and workshops

They will work closely with and be guided by a Local Community Futures Steering Group made up of representatives of key community organisations. Short term and Part time The work in each community will be carried out over a 6 month period and the likely time commitment expected will be in the region of 40 days over the 6 month period, for which the Support Volunteers will be reimbursed. It is expected that he/she will be required on a part time basis (3 days a week) for the 6 month period in the first instance. Hours will be flexible and there is a requirement that Support Volunteers be available evenings and occasionally at weekends. Training opportunity An initial training course will be given to all those interested in applying.


The training course will cover:
  • Community Futures Programme
  • Community Action Plans
  • Community Consultation and participatory planning

We are looking for people with interest and experience in working with community and voluntary organisations and communities. People should be enthusiastic, good listeners, and able to work with other people, able to prioritise their time, and be able to produce summaries and reports of their work.
