There are over 640 community and voluntary groups registered with Mayo Community Forum. These are organised into the 6 electoral areas: Ballina, Belmullet, Castlebar, Claremorris, Swinford and Westport and are called Local Area Community Fora. Because of the size of the electoral area of Belmullet and local Fora meetings are held in the areas of Achill and Belmullet. This happens also in the Claremorris electoral area in the Ballinrobe area and the Claremorris area.
The purpose of Local Area Fora is to facilitate engagement with local clubs and organisations. It gives these groups a platform to come together to meet the local area Community Reps. It is an opportunity to express their views, issues and concerns so that the Community Reps can bring these forward to county level and to the various boards and committees that the Forum has representation on. It also facilitated the Community Reps to report back to the local groups on the outcome of the matters raised. It is an excellent opportunity to network with other groups members, to learn from each other’s experiences and to share information.
Regular Area Fora meetings are held in the local areas; member groups are notified and notices are posted in local press.
