
WESTPORT GEARING UP FOR 2nd SPORTS FESTIVAL
Following the success of last years event preparations are in full swing for the 2nd Westport Festival of Sport Fun Day, which is to be held as part of the Westport “Get Out There” Adventure Festival, on Sunday 22nd August 1pm – 5pm centred around the Mall area in Westport.
The event, coordinated by the Mayo Sports Partnership, promises to be full of fun activities such as the family sports challenge (incorporating 12 different sports), water sports, traditional games, bouncy castle/fun inflatable’s, walking challenges, street orienteering, inclusive games, a 5K Fun Run / Walk etc. An extra attraction this year will be an Adventure Zone featuring activities such as Climbing Wall, Archery and some team building challenges which will be quite interesting to say the least.
Many organisations including Westport Town Council, Mayo County Council, Mayo Sports Partnership, Irish Sports Council, Failte Ireland, Chamber of Commerce, Gardaí, Mayo VEC, GMIT, Mayo Water Safety Committee, Family Resource Centre, Local Sports Organisations and many others are pooling resources in an effort to make this day a success. Many local businesses are also providing much needed support on the day.
“Despite the terrible weather conditions last year the committee got such a positive response from the public, visitors and clubs who participated on the day. We felt that it would be an ideal fit into the Adventure Festival as a fun day out for all. ” commented Mayo Sports Partnership co-ordinator and committee member Charlie Lambert.
So pencil in Sunday afternoon 1pm – 5pm Sunday 22nd August on the South Mall Westport for an unforgettable experience.
The public are asked to note that both sides of the mall from Mc Greevys and O Gradys to the Fairgreen will be closed to traffic from 8am to 6pm on Sunday 22nd August to facilitate the activities of the festival
