Link2BActive “Physical Activity Opportunities for the Unemployed”

Mayo Sports Partnership (MSP), Mayo County Council, Mayo VEC,  HSE West, Leader Partnership Companies, Family Resource Centres and other partners  are seeking to try and ensure that unemployed people, and especially newly unemployed, remain physically active in these challenging times.

Unemployment in County Mayo has almost trebled (from 4,700 to 14,000 approx)over the past two years.  It is common knowledge that being made redundant can have a severe impact on the physical and mental health of a person with spin off effects on their immediate family and community. Mayo Sports Partnership and the Community Partnerships wish to liaise therefore with local sporting facilities to see what opportunities could be offered to the unemployed, which in turn could offer increased revenue generation to these places. A full list of participating facilities are listed below

( Please note that links to the centres anfd facilities below will not be live until 11th October)

With “Link2BActive” it is planned that an information leaflet will be distributed directly to the target group through the social welfare offices, family resource centres, doctor surgeries, credit unions etc This will point people to www.mayosports.ie where there will be a direct link to facility providers websites with detailed information on the facilities, their offers & conditions and perhaps any other ancillary benefits that may be available. Minister Dara Calleary will launch the initiative on Monday 11th October at 11am in the Ballina Sports and Leisure Complex.

This programme is already up and running in South Dublin and has proven to be a tremendous success. Please log on to www.sdcsp.ie/l2ba.html  to see more about the initiative.
